Elections Bill: Photo ID to Vote

This Bill proposes that photo IDs would be required before receiving ballot papers to vote. Evidence has from around the world shows that enforcing showing photo ID makes voting less attractive and harder to vote.

Some of the measures in this Bill are welcome, such as the principle of extending the franchise to all UK citizens living overseas. However, the Bill is not about enfranchising them, as claimed. How do we know that? Because it is still incredibly difficult to vote from abroad. The real reason for extending the franchise is not about voting rights but about donations, which must come from individuals on the voting registers.
