The Prescription of E-cigarettes will enable many people to stop smoking tobacco. Smoking rates are down by 13.9% which is the lowest on record. However, tobacco continues to be one of the biggest cause of premature death.
The goal is for England to be smoke free by 2030. E-cigarettes are regarded as a gateway process for giving up smoking. Updated guidance has set out the steps needed to license an e-cigarette as a medicinal product. This will enable e-cigarettes to be available on prescription. Lord Rennard asks the House why it has taken so long to adopt the recommendations of the 2018 Select Committee. How do we know that licensing will now proceed in a timely manner?
