There is a need to go further with tobacco flavour regulation. Amendment 278 would close a loophole in current legislation. In May 2020, it was recognised that menthol hides the harsh taste of tobacco and makes cigarettes easier to smoke and more appealing to children.
EU legislation, called the Tobacco Product Directive banned the sale of flavoured tobacco. However, a massive loophole is allowing the flavouring to continue.
